Please Cosponsor the WAGES Act HR 2570

Dear Representative,

I am a member of 9to5 National Association of Working Women. I urge you to cosponsor the WAGES Act, HR 2570, introduced by Rep. Donna Edwards which would establish a base minimum wage for tipped employees. If enacted, the bill would increase tipped wages to: (1) $3.75 an hour beginning 90 days after the enactment (2) $5.00 an hour beginning July, 2011 and (3) in July 2012, 70% of the wage in effect under FLSA (and never less than $5.50 an hour).

The minimum wage for tipped workers has been $2.13 for the last 18 years. While profits and living expenses have increased, servers' wages have remained the same. In GA, the general state minimum wage remains at $5.15 while cost of living requires someone to make at least $12/hour to survive in the city of Atlanta. The WAGES Act is crucial to the livelihood of servers and tipped workers.

Please support the WAGES Act to ensure that tipped workers in Georgia are being paid a living wage.
