Please urge your U.S. Representative to co-sponsor the Healthy Families Act. This important legislation would guarantee up to seven paid sick days per year for workers to recover from their own illness or care for a sick family member. Working people shouldn't be forced to risk their jobs to take care of themselves or their families. Yet, nearly half of all workers do not have a single paid sick day to care for themselves or a family member when they are ill. The Healthy Families Act will provide everyone the chance to stay home, and not have to choose between the families they love and the job they need.

A much needed update of the 45-year-old Equal Pay Act, the Paycheck Fairness Act is a comprehensive bill that would create stronger incentives for employers to follow the law, empower women to negotiate for equal pay, and strengthen federal outreach, education and enforcement efforts. The bill would also deter wage discrimination by strengthening penalties for equal pay violations and by prohibiting retaliation against workers who ask about employers' wage practices or disclose their own wages. This critical piece of legislation can help create a climate where pay discrimination is not tolerated, and give the courts the enforcement tools it needs to make real progress on pay equity.
